Guano (Quechua) is an very old word from the ancient inca civilization. It means the dropping of seabirds, bats and seals . It contains nitrogen and phosphate or phosphorus compounds and is an excellent organic soil enhancement. It is highly prized as an effective fertilizer or gunpowder ingredient due to its high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen. Guano consists of ammonia, along with uric, phosphoric, oxalic, and carbonic acids, as well as some earth salts and impurities. Superphosphate made from guano is used for aerial topdressing. Bat guano is usually mined in caves. One of the major innovators in guano harvesting was Benjamin Drake Van Wissen.

Bat guano is highly concentrated an can be mixed with your soil, applied as a top dressing and worked into the soil or mixed with water and applied, guano will have a dramatic influence.
